Just Another Day!!!

Well, as I sat here last night "alone" I thought about how many nights that we have done this. Typically, we talk or skype at night. Right now, though, my husband is in Europe so the time difference has changed our routine. Sometimes I just feel so sorry for myself!!!! I think that this is so crazy. Then, when I really reflect on our situation, I realize that there are so many people that have it much worse than we do. There are so many that are out of work, losing their homes, not able to make ends meet. That's when I snap out of it and am thankful for what we have and not what we don't have. So I try to think about the positive. My husband will be home on Friday night for four nights. So, I just look ahead until then so that we can make the most of the time he is at home.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN!!!

How did we get ourselves into this whole situation? Well, it all began about 2 years ago. My husband had been working for a Fortune 500 company for about 25 years. The work environment at this company had been getting worse by the day. For the first time that I can remember, my husband became unhappy in his job. To make matters worse, it was taking a toll on him physically. He just started looking stressed and unhappy. During this time the company was not doing well. They began to offer severance packages for those who had been around for a long time. Actually, they wanted to get rid of the "older" employees. You would think someone in their "40's" is not that old. Many, many discussions took place regarding what to do. At the time, we thought it would be easy for my husband to get another job. Plus, he would be able to take some much needed time off. For once in our lives, we decided to do something that was totally impractical and almost crazy. We assumed that he would have no problem finding another job. So ...... we did it!!

One Year And Counting!!!

So we have been in this commuter marriage for a year now. Who knew we would still be doing this and who knows when it will end!! I guess that is the hardest part .... not knowing where it ends. For now, we make it work. Our primary residence is in Chicago where we have a house. My husband works in New York where we have rented an apartment. We try to see each other every weekend or every other weekend. There are so many times when we question what we are doing. We always come up with the same answer; my husband has a very good job and in this economy, it is better than no job at all.
